Polish farmers report worsening conditions of winter rapeseed crops due to prolonged moisture deficits and April frosts. In some fields, yield potential is already estimated at only 1–1.5 t/ha, according to Farmer.pl.

The condition of winter crops in Poland is increasingly worrying due to drought affecting different regions of the country. According to the Polish publication, although harvest is still ahead, yield potential in many farms is already assessed as problematic.

Rapeseed has been hit the hardest by the lack of moisture. In some farms, plants are short, weakly branched, and stressed after drought conditions and late April frosts. In some fields, farmers expect yields of around 1 t/ha, while in the worst cases there is a risk of total crop loss.

Polish farmers report that the difficult situation is not limited to Lower Silesia. Moisture deficits are also recorded in the Opole, Greater Poland, West Pomeranian, and Kuyavian-Pomeranian regions.

Signal for Ukraine

For the Ukrainian market, this situation is not just a weather update from a neighboring country. If climate risks in Poland materialize, it could affect EU rapeseed balances and increase demand for imported raw materials.

In 2025, the Polish Oil Producers Association (PSPO) asked the government to allow imports of Ukrainian rapeseed. The association estimated that the deficit in the 2025/26 season could reach at least 500,000 tons.

However, imports of Ukrainian rapeseed into Poland remain restricted at the national level. Poland maintains a ban on imports of wheat, corn, rapeseed, and sunflower from Ukraine, despite changes in the EU–Ukraine trade regime.

Serhii Orlovskyi, founder of the trading company AgroOilTrade, said that opening the Polish market to Ukrainian rapeseed would clearly improve the situation in Ukraine by increasing prices and demand.

“All Polish processors consider this unfair to them, but it is a political issue and they cannot influence it. They are simply waiting for the embargo to be lifted,” Orlovskyi said.
