Rail grain deliveries to Ukrainian ports fall 38.6% in September
Rail deliveries of grain to Ukrainian ports fell sharply in September. According to Spike Brokers, around 177.6 thsd tons of grain were transported to ports during the month, down 38.6% from August.
The steepest decline was recorded on routes to the ports of Greater Odesa. Rail deliveries there fell to around 35 thsd tons, down 46.5% from the previous month.
Another 42.6 thsd tons of grain were delivered by rail to Izmail in September. Volumes on this route declined by 42.3% m/m.
The reduction in rail deliveries to ports comes as Ukraine seeks to expand alternative export routes through Romania. Kyiv and Bucharest are working to increase rail shipments toward the port of Constanta.
The two countries are also considering ways to expand the capacity of the Sulina Canal. With traditional port routes operating under constraints, the Romanian corridor remains one of the key alternatives for Ukrainian grain exports.
