Queues are growing not only for vessels entering the Sulina Canal but also for those exiting it. Around 13 vessels are currently waiting to leave the canal and undergo inspection near Mile 36, according to Avalon Shipping Operations Manager Kateryna Kononenko.

The situation is complicated by limited waiting capacity. Only about six vessels can be accommodated near Tulcea, while the remaining ships have to wait in the Chatal area.

As a result, the waiting time to exit the Sulina Canal has increased from around one day to 3–4 days. According to Kononenko, waiting times could increase further.

Weather conditions in the region remain an additional factor that could affect vessel traffic and the canal’s capacity. Growing queues for outbound vessels are creating additional delays for shipping through Sulina.
