The price of September cocoa bean futures rose to $5,127 per ton, up 3.1%, according to trading data on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). Yesterday, prices exceeded $5,000 for the first time since January 16, 2026.

During trading on June 24, the price of a ton of cocoa beans peaked at $5,040, up 8.5%. Trading closed at $4,973 per ton.

Trading Economics noted that the rise is due to short-covering and supply concerns due to weather conditions. Specifically, the September harvest in West Africa could be reduced due to the El Niño climate phenomenon. Furthermore, heavy rainfall in Côte d’Ivoire, the world’s largest cocoa producer, could impact supplies. Traders fear that rain could lead to flooding, increased disease incidence, and a decline in the quality of cocoa beans.
