Polish farmers stop blocking the border with Lithuania

Polish farmers have stopped protesting on the border with Lithuania, which began on March 1, and vehicles are no longer checked on the road. This was reported to BNS by a representative of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, Gedrius Mishutis.
“The news is that the campaign is over,” he said, noting that no problems had arisen on the Lithuanian border during the almost week-long campaign.
“Everything went off without a hitch, so to speak,” Mishutis added.
Farmers’ protests in Poland
As previously reported, the partial blockade of the international highway where the former Kalvarija-Budzisko border crossing is located was accompanied by truck inspections by Polish police, customs, and road transport inspectors.
However, on March 4, the Lithuanian authorities reported that the enthusiasm of the protesters began to wane, as the inspections did not reveal any violations. This route is used by about 6,000 trucks a day.
Poland had previously imposed restrictions on imports of Ukrainian grain, but farmers feared that some of it was heading to Lithuania and then being imported into Poland under the guise of Lithuanian products.
Lithuanian officials have rejected farmers’ accusations of insufficient control over grain supplies.
