Poland’s rapeseed crop to fall by 17% in 2026
Poland’s rapeseed and turnip rape crop in 2026 is estimated at around 3.0 mln tons, down 17.3% from a year earlier. The estimate was published by Statistics Poland (GUS) in its preliminary forecast for the country’s main agricultural crops.
One of the main reasons for the decline is a reduction in planted area. According to GUS, the area under rapeseed and turnip rape this year is estimated at around 1 mln ha, down 8.4% compared with 2025.
Weather conditions also weighed on production. Winter rapeseed overwintered worse than in the previous season, while the condition of crops left for harvest was assessed as weaker than a year earlier.
High temperatures in late June and early July accelerated crop maturation. Rapeseed harvesting in Poland began in the second ten-day period of July and was completed in the second half of August.
The smaller Polish rapeseed crop could support import demand from domestic crushers in 2026/27 MY. This is particularly relevant for Ukraine given the proximity of the Polish market and the important role of the EU in Ukrainian rapeseed exports, although actual trade flows will continue to depend on existing restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products into Poland.
