Poland will maintain the embargo on Ukrainian grain and tighten controls on transit
Poland’s embargo on Ukrainian agricultural products will remain in place despite Brussels’ expectations.
This was stated by Poland’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Stefan Krajewski, in an interview with RMF FM.
He noted that he is in contact with the European Commission but has no intention of lifting the restrictions on Ukrainian grain. He emphasised that similar previous decisions had led to serious problems on the Polish market.
The minister stressed that grain from Ukraine should be channelled to third countries, rather than remaining in Europe and disrupting trade relations. He insists that the transit of grain through Poland must be fully controlled. If the European Commission demands that the embargo be lifted, it must instead propose solutions that would effectively protect domestic markets.
Stefan Krajewski stated that no negotiations are currently underway regarding an increase in the quota for the transit of Ukrainian grain.
At the same time, he emphasised that the capacity of Polish seaports cannot be prioritised for the transit of Ukrainian grain, as local farmers have their own export needs.
Meanwhile, Przemysław Czarnek, the prime ministerial candidate for the Polish opposition party Law and Justice, insists on maintaining the ban on Ukrainian grain entering the Polish market and is calling for the blockade to be extended to processed products, reports Onet.
