Poland sets record for potato exports. Ukraine is the biggest buyer
Poland has set a new record for potato exports: from January to August 2025, 107.54 thousand tons of products were shipped to foreign markets. The main buyer remained Ukraine, which imported 57.11 thousand tons.
This was reported by FreshPlaza.
Polish potatoes were also actively supplied to Romania (11.9 thousand tons), Moldova (9.92 thousand tons), Belarus (6.52 thousand tons), Germany (5.63 thousand tons), Italy (5.01 thousand tons), Slovakia (2.78 thousand tons), Latvia (2.4 thousand tons), Spain (1.25 thousand tons) and the United Kingdom (820 tons). Export revenue for this period amounted to PLN 151.99 million (≈30.4 million euros, UAH 1,467 million), which is significantly higher than last year’s PLN 110.04 million (≈22.0 million euros, UAH 1,072 million). Almost half of the revenue was provided by the Ukrainian market – PLN 73.94 million (≈14.8 million euros, UAH 850 million).
At the same time, potato imports to Poland still exceed exports: 171.69 thousand tons were imported in eight months for about EUR 55.2 million. The main supplier was Germany. Imports included table, chilled, seed and starch potatoes.
Despite record exports, the Polish market faced a significant supply: production in 2025 reached 6.8 million tons, while domestic consumption did not exceed 6 million tons. The surplus, formed due to increased areas under cultivation and high yields, put pressure on prices, especially in the fresh market potato segment. Prices for contracted raw materials for processing remained more stable. In November, wholesale prices began to level off after a long decline. Medium and high-quality potatoes in 15 kg bags are currently trading at PLN 0.40–0.53/kg (≈ EUR 0.08–0.11/kg, UAH 4.56–6.04/kg). Analysts expect a gradual recovery in prices by the end of the season, as even in unfavorable years they usually increase at the end of the season.
