Poland is outraged that the EU did not provide details of the agreement with Ukraine
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, Czesław Siekierski, is dissatisfied with the way the European Commission informed EU member states about the negotiations with Ukraine on the new conditions for the import of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU countries.
This was reported by the press service of the Polish ministry.
Siekierski noted that the European Commission provided EU member states with a general description of the elements of the agreement with Ukraine, “but did not provide details, primarily regarding the new level of tariff quotas,” which are to be announced in the near future.
“I am disappointed with the way the European Commission informed member states about the completion of negotiations with Ukraine, on the last day of the Polish presidency of the EU Council. As the chairman of the EU Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (AGRIFISH), I have repeatedly drawn attention to the need for the European Commission to conduct trade negotiations more transparently and in dialogue with farmers. “In the meantime, the European Commission has decided to conclude the negotiations without prior consultations with EU Member States or agricultural organizations,” he said.
It is noted that the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will analyze the text of the proposed agreement after its transmission by the European Commission and will cooperate with the Polish Ministry of Development and Technology on issues related to the preparation of the Polish government’s position on this matter.
