Poland increased exports of dairy products
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, Stefan Krajewski, met with representatives of the dairy industry. The discussions focused mainly on issues related to export permits, expanding access to third country markets and trade rules.
The meeting also addressed topics such as the classification of dairy enterprises as critical infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted electricity and gas supplies.
The dairy industry, due to its specific nature – the need to collect raw materials from production farms, heat treat raw materials and store finished products in refrigerated conditions – cannot be subject to restrictions on the supply of utilities.
The dairy market is currently one of the most dynamically developing sectors of Polish food exports. Joint efforts of the state administration and industry representatives are crucial in this process.
“We will analyze the current rules and, in cooperation with the dairy industry, propose changes that will ensure the energy and food security of the sector,” said Minister Stefan Krajewski. “Dairy products are a national treasure, well-known all over the world. In 2025, the domestic dairy industry’s income from dairy exports was higher than a year ago, mainly due to increased demand from EU countries. The value of dairy exports from Poland in 2025 reached a record 3.9 billion euros (16.7 billion zlotys), which is 10% more than in 2024. Dairy imports amounted to 1.9 billion euros (8.2 billion zlotys), which is 3% more. Now everything must be done to maintain this trend. The positive trade balance for dairy products (including casein) in 2025 reached EUR 2.0 billion (PLN 8.5 billion), which is 18% more than in the previous year.
Currently, 63 foreign markets are open for the export of milk and dairy products from Poland. The participants discussed the problems encountered in individual markets, as well as the prospects and possibilities for solving them in the near future.
“The Polish dairy sector is an example of effective cooperation between the administration and entrepreneurs. It should be emphasized that further expansion of export opportunities for Polish food products and a rapid response to new trade barriers remains a priority,” said Chief Veterinarian Pawel Meyer.
The participants of the meeting pledged to continue cooperation to further develop exports and strengthen the safety and competitiveness of Polish dairy products on international markets.
In countries that are particularly promising for Poland, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) work in Polish embassies, thus supporting the Polish agricultural sector in Berlin, Kyiv, Abu Dhabi, Cairo, Beijing and New Delhi. It is also planned to create positions for agri-food industry experts in foreign trade missions around the world.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
