After a four-month halt in rice imports (September–December 2025), the Philippines has resumed purchasing Vietnamese rice. According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam is the largest supplier of rice to the Philippine market, accounting for nearly 40% of Vietnam’s rice exports in 2025.

The Philippines will continue to apply a 15% import tariff, although a proposal to raise it to 20% is currently under review. The country plans to import around 3.6 million tonnes of rice in 2026, with Vietnamese rice expected to make up 75–80% of that volume, or approximately 2.7–2.88 million tonnes.

To manage import volumes, all shipments must comply with quarantine and phytosanitary requirements, arrive at the port within 60 days, and clear customs through 17 designated ports.
