Canada’s pea and lentil production could decline sharply in the 2026/27 season, according to the latest forecast from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). Total output of the two key pulse crops is projected at 5.95 million tons, down from 8.2 million tons in the current season. Pea production is expected to fall from 3.9 million tons to 2.95 million tons, while lentil output could decrease from 3.4 million tons to 2.35 million tons.

As one of the world’s leading suppliers of pulses, Canada plays a crucial role in serving major import markets such as India, China, Bangladesh, the UAE, and Turkey. A smaller Canadian crop could create opportunities for other exporting countries to expand their presence in these markets and reshape global trade flows in the pulse sector during the MY 2026/27.
