Paraguay’s oilseed processing sector shows records
The oilseed processing sector in Paraguay recorded exceptionally strong results in the first quarter of 2026. Official data show a significant increase in soybean processing – by almost 10%, while canola and sunflower showed even more dynamic rates, indicating a gradual diversification of the oilseed industry.
The positive dynamics continue the trend of the previous year and form a strong start for the sector in 2026. An additional signal of development was the Soybean Rally 2026, which demonstrated the innovation and sustainability of agroprocessing in the Chaco region.
In March 2026, soybean processing reached 384,126 tons – the highest monthly level in recent years, comparable only to March 2017. In total, the volume of soybean processing in the first quarter amounted to 765,677 tons, which is about 65 thousand tons or 9.3% more than in the same period in 2025.
The processing of other oilseeds is growing even faster. The volumes of canola and sunflower increased by 11.9% – from 16,966 tons to 18,985 tons. Although their share is smaller than that of soybeans, such dynamics indicate an active expansion of the processing structure and a decrease in dependence on a single crop.
Analysts note that the diversification of oilseed processing increases the industry’s resistance to price fluctuations and weather risks. Expanding the range of raw materials allows for better loading of production capacities and increases the flexibility of the country’s agro-industrial complex.
According to estimates by the Cappro association, the development of domestic processing of oilseeds increases the added value of Paraguay’s exports. The transition from raw material supplies to exports of oils and meals strengthens the country’s position in the global market and provides more stable income for the agricultural sector.
