Paraguay expands soybean processing as export revenue approaches $1 billion
Paraguay continues to expand domestic soybean processing, supporting exports of higher-value products. In January–August 2026, exports of soybean oil, meal and hulls generated $997.17 million, up 20% from the same period a year earlier.
The volume of soybeans destined for domestic processing increased from around 2.1 mln tons to more than 2.3 mln tons over the period. This means a growing share of the crop is being processed domestically rather than exported as raw soybeans.
Higher utilization of crushing facilities is increasing supplies of soybean oil, meal and other processed products for export markets. This allows Paraguay to generate more foreign-currency revenue from each ton of soybeans processed.
In the first eight months of the year, export revenue from processed soybean products had already nearly reached $1 billion. The 20% year-on-year increase highlights the growing role of processing in the country’s soybean sector.
Further growth in domestic processing could strengthen Paraguay’s position in global soybean oil and meal markets and gradually increase the share of higher-value products in the country’s agricultural exports.
