Since Pakistan’s agriculture sector is known for its vast potential, it now finds itself at the cusp of a change. Influenced by abundant arable land, various climatic conditions and water availability, country has been able to grow quality produce, but its economic strength stems from a more advanced understanding of its foreign trade.

Pakistan’s agricultural exports are on the rise and the country is aiming not only at raw exports but at productivity exports, value added exports, export of machines, and quality agriculture. This is evident in the increased export yields of Pakistani agricultural machinery as well as its rice export that is currently recasting the country’s agricultural export geography.

Lately, Pakistan’s agricultural export sector can be observed as one of the shining stars especially in the case of exporting agricultural machinery. Pakistan not only has advanced to build its production line of tractors and machinery but has also planned and worked on how to cover more territories in other countries. A recent achievement in this respect was the export in the first consignment of tractors to Tanzania. This event is an important landmark in Pakistan’s quest to establish new entrée into global markets and to bolster its agricultural machinery exports especially in the East African market.

Pakistani tractors export to Tanzania is the outcome of an agreement between Pakistan’s Pak Tractors House Company and Kenya Tanzania based Masai Trekta Company an agricultural machinery distributor. This partnership is part of Pakistan’s more comprehensive approach to advancing its machinery in East Africa, which has been working for some time on mechanizing its own agriculture. The agreement signifies not only the Pakistan growing into new markets but also total assurance from Pakistan manufacturers to play international trade.

The support of this development cannot be overemphasized with the participation of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). The Strategic Initiatives of SIFC have paid increased attention to developing international business links, which has greatly helped in these kinds of trade relations aim at establishing and strengthening, Pakistan’s trade relations with countries such as Tanzania, Kenya and other countries in East Africa. This forms part of Pakistan’s wider plan of being a market destination in production of agricultural foods and hence the reason it is gradually emerging a giant in the exportation of agricultural machinery.

Among products, rice especially famous Basmati grain has been a mainstay for Pakistan especially in exports of agricultural produce. Today, Pakistan’s rice exports triggered new record requirements for 2024 because quality and acceptance of rice from Pakistan are great all over the world. The export to KSA, for example, has increased by a staggering 25% and proves how much more admired Pakistani rice has become by the people of KSA. In fact, Pakistan rice export volume touched a record $4 billion in FY 2024. For example, exports to KSA rose as the reputation of Pakistan’s rice continues to grow among Saudi consumers who are also understanding that there is a wide variety of rice and quality from Pakistan.

The record increase in rice exports therefore mirrors a bigger plan that aimed at increasing the country’s market niche in international market. Pakistan is aiming high by targeting $5 billion revenue in rice exports in the future fiscal year and is currently concentrating on stronger seed research, efficient farming and better production methods towards unbounded demand. To sustain competitiveness in international rice market, Pakistan has objectives to develop new quality rice varieties and to increase the process of agricultural modernization.

Besides, Pakistan has identified opportunities to not only increase rice export to traditional markets but also to established itself in new markets as well. Chairman of Saudi-Pakistani Business Council recently expressed appreciation of quality of rice exported from Pakistan and noted Pakistani resolve to aggressively consolidate and strengthen its market share in Saudi Arabia. This is endorsement from strategic business leader in KSA that, for Pakistan’s rice exports to remain secure in the Saudi market it has to use quality and consistent rice.

The surveys conducted by SIFC are aiding Pakistan in clearly defining what areas hold potential for growth for the country and which sectors such as agricultural machinery and rice could companies within the country expand their partnerships internationally to increase future growth. The ongoing push for greater global engagement in Pakistan’s agricultural sector demonstrates the country’s broader economic strategy: He redefined it for improving production and achieving market access in world and thereby increasing share of economy.

Pakistan agriculture is standing on the crossroads of transformation that includes innovation, foreign demand and modernization. One is in exporting agricultural machinery to Tanzania and the other example is increased sales of rice to Saudi Arabia where its rice sales has risen to third highest import product for Saudi Arabia. These developments bear testimony to the fact that Pakistan’s agricultural sector holds out all the promise of being able to serve domestic consumption needs and join the global market.

Pakistan’s agriculture manufacturers in particular and the international partners together with the policies like the SIFC are at the right direction laying the foundation for future enhancements of trade performances. In this sense, Pakistan must sustain its advances; consolidate its strengths to become a dominant exporting player in Agriculture trade to fuel economic enhancement and strengthen its trade bond to the trading partners of the globe. I agree therefore with the observation of the study that the future of agricultural trade in Pakistan is bright especially with the country’s emphasis on modernizing the sector and focusing on quality produce and strategic market access.
