Pakistan: Soya bean, palm oil imports grew by 12.99% and 29.37% in four months

The imports of edible oil, including soya bean and palm into the country during the first four months of the current financial year grew by 12.99 per cent and 29.37 per cent, respectively, as compared to the imports of the corresponding period of the last year.
During the period from July to October 2025, about 60,809 metric tons of soya bean oil valued at $66.108 million were imported as compared to the imports of 59,340 metric tons worth $58.509 million of the same period of the last year, according to the data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Meanwhile, 1.25 million metric tons of palm oil costing $1.325 billion were also imported in order to fulfill the domestic requirement of vegetable ghee and cooking oil, as compared to the imports of 1.085 million metric tons valued at $1.042 billion of the same period of the last year.
On a year-on-year basis, the import of soya bean oil during the month of October 2025 decreased by 67.28 per cent as 8,755 metric tons of soya bean worth of $9.456 million were imported as compared to the imports of 28,880 metric tons costing of $28.89 million of the same period of the last year.
The food group imports into the country during the first four months of the current financial year grew by 31.38 per cent as different food commodities worth of $3.075 billion were imported as compared to the imports of $2.340 billion of the same period of the last year.
On the other hand, the food group exports from the country decreased by 34.93 per cent and were recorded at 1.538 billion as compared to the exports of $2.369 billion of the same period of the last year.
On a Month-on-Month (MoM) basis, the food exports, however, increased by 28.59 per cent in October 2025 when compared to the exports of $ 334.599 million in September 2025, according to PBS data.
