Over 620 thousand tonnes of sugar already produced in Ukraine
Ukrainian sugar refineries have already produced over 620 thousand tonnes of sugar, according to the Ukrtsukor National Association of Sugar Producers.
“As of October 21, 620.2 thousand tonnes of sugar were produced and 4.28 million tonnes of sugar beets were processed," reads the report.
As of October 21, Ukrainian farmers harvested 6 million tonnes of sugar beet from an area of 137 thousand hectares, which is 62% of the forecast, with an average yield of 437 centners per hectare.
The sugar refining season in Ukraine officially started on September 1. In the current year, 31 sugar refineries operate in the country, 11 factories less than last year.
Ukraine produced 1.82 million tonnes of sugar in the 2018-2019 marketing year, which was 15% more compared to the previous season. A total of 42 sugar refineries operated then. They processed 13.6 million tonnes of sugar beets, which was 10% less than in the previous season.
