Opening of the Chinese market will not significantly affect pea crops in Ukraine
The opening of China to Ukrainian peas will not significantly affect the market, at least not for now, because there are almost no peas left from the previous harvest. It is also unlikely that this will affect crops: it is predicted that the area under peas will remain without cardinal changes – it is about 150 thousand hectares.
This was told to AgroPortal.ua by broker VEA Brokers Viktor Korobko.
“It is unlikely that a farmer will strongly and immediately focus on the new market. This is a long and uncertain process: today they introduced duties – tomorrow they removed them… In addition, the pea market is not transparent – there are no exchanges such as Chicago and MATIF,” Viktor Korobko believes.
However, according to VEA Brokers forecasts, Ukrainian producers will be able to harvest 420-450 thousand tons or even half a million of the new crop, it will depend on the weather.
