Novorossiysk came under a large-scale drone attack overnight on August 12, damaging port and other infrastructure in the city. One of the facilities hit was the Novorossiysk Grain Terminal, a key part of Russia’s grain export infrastructure on the Black Sea.

According to Reuters, citing an industry source, the grain terminal suspended operations following the overnight attack. The facility’s owner, Demetra Holding, confirmed that the terminal had been damaged but did not provide details on the extent of the damage. An assessment of the consequences of the strike is underway.

Reports of a strike on grain infrastructure emerged during the night. NASA’s FIRMS satellite system detected fires in Novorossiysk, while local and OSINT sources reported a fire in the area of the grain elevator.

Novorossiysk is one of Russia’s key grain export hubs on the Black Sea, meaning the shutdown of the terminal could further complicate shipments. The incident comes amid existing problems with Russia’s grain logistics in the Azov-Black Sea basin, which have already prompted analysts to forecast a significant decline in grain exports in August.
