Number of cows in Ukraine is already less than 1 mln heads
In January 2026, the total cattle population in Ukraine decreased by 15.7%, compared to the same period in 2025, to 1.72 million heads. Of these, 958.7 thousand heads were cows, which is 17.2% less than in January last year.
This is evidenced by the State Statistics Service.
According to the results of January this year, 952.2 thousand cattle were kept in the industrial sector, which is 2.3% more than in the first month of 2025. The number of cows increased by 3% over the year to 395.9 thousand heads.
The household sector accounted for 772.6 thousand cattle, which is 30% less than in January 2025. The number of cows decreased by 27.2% to 562.8 thousand heads.
