No agreement yet between Ukraine and Russia on Black Sea shipping

Reports that Ukraine and Russia have allegedly reached an agreement to normalize shipping in the Black Sea with Turkey’s mediation are not accurate. So far, there have been no officially confirmed decisions or agreements on restoring normal operations along Black Sea shipping routes.

The rumors began circulating in the market following comments by Valerii Tkachov, deputy director of the commercial operations department at Ukrainian Railways. His remarks were interpreted as suggesting that an agreement between the parties could have been reached, while in fact they referred only to expectations among agricultural market participants.

Ukrainian farmers have recently slowed grain sales, partly in the hope that Turkey could facilitate negotiations aimed at improving shipping conditions in the Black Sea. More stable operations along maritime routes could improve export logistics and conditions for selling the new crop.

Market participants believe that some changes in Black Sea shipping conditions could potentially occur as early as August. However, such a scenario currently remains only a market expectation and has not been confirmed by any official agreement between Ukraine, Russia or Turkey.
