NIBULON will focus on durum wheat in southern Ukraine

NIBULON plans to significantly expand its durum wheat area in its Mykolaiv cluster for the 2027 crop. Almost all winter wheat in the cluster will be durum varieties following a successful season in which the company harvested around 10 thsd tons of durum wheat and fine-tuned its production technology.

Overall, the company’s crop structure will remain largely unchanged. Corn will remain one of the key crops in central and western regions, while winter wheat and rapeseed will continue to dominate production in southern Ukraine.

The focus on winter crops in southern regions is primarily driven by moisture shortages. Winter crops can make more efficient use of moisture accumulated during the winter and spring, which is particularly important under the increasingly dry conditions in southern Ukraine.

NIBULON has already started its planting campaign for the 2027 crop with winter rapeseed. However, drought is making fieldwork challenging, with rapeseed being planted into dry soil as there is currently no moisture even at a depth of 20–25 cm.

The company expects planting costs to rise by 25–30% compared with last year. NIBULON plans to partly offset the increase through improved production efficiency: in 2025/26 MY, the company reduced fuel consumption by 10 liters/ha and increased nitrogen use efficiency by 30%.
