New US tariffs come into effect today: tariff for China raised to 104%
The United States of America has imposed increased tariffs on China, which will take effect today, April 9, 2025.
This is stated in a White House statement.
According to Donald Trump’s order, starting April 9, 2025, after 12:01 Eastern Daylight Time, in the US trade legislation, customs tariffs on commodity items 9903.01.63 HTSUS (goods from China) will be replaced from 34% to 84%.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said that this rate is added to Chinese tariffs that were in effect before Trump’s second term, so a rate of 104% will apply to China.
Also, starting April 9, 2025, increased tariffs will apply to other countries of the world. In particular, 20% will be added to tariffs on goods from the European Union and Jordan, 15% – Norway and Venezuela, 17% – Israel, Malawi, the Philippines and Zambia, 24% – Brunei, Japan and Malaysia, 25% – Korea, 26% – India, 31% – Libya, Moldova and Switzerland. For other countries, including Ukraine, tariffs will increase by 10%.
