New soybean crop begins planting in Brazil with good weather prospects

Brazil has begun planting the new soybean crop (2025/26), with more evident progress in Paraná and some activity in Mato Grosso, still at a very slow pace. In Paraná, the pace is within expectations, with good prospects and favorable weather. The country expects an increase in planted area of approximately 1.2%, with an average projected yield of 3,771 kg per hectare. Weather maps indicate the arrival of rains in Mato Grosso, which should spread throughout the Midwest, favoring faster planting progress, even if there may be some initial delay.

Monthly maps indicate heavy rainfall across almost the entire country, particularly in the Midwest region, precisely during a crucial phase for grain development. Between November and December, rainfall is expected to remain high. In January, the heaviest rainfall tends to shift to the Northeast. The South, in turn, is unlikely to face the same problems as last year, when there was a scarcity of rainfall and low moisture. Even so, it is important to note that the La Niña phenomenon could alter this scenario, influencing the intensity and distribution of rainfall. Currently, however, conditions remain quite favorable for Brazil’s expectations for the soybean crop.

In Paraná, nearly 8% of the area bound for soybeans has been planted. This percentage equates to approximately 472,000 hectares planted, out of a total of 5.9 mln hectares estimated for the state. The week earlier, the rate was 1%. In the same period last year, the rate was 3%, while the five-year average for the period is 5%.

In Mato Grosso, of a total expected area of 12.83 mln hectares, 1% has been planted, equivalent to approximately 128,000 hectares. The previous week, the rate was 0.0%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 4%, while the five-year average for the period is 1.3%. The other states, for now, are showing no progress due to their planting windows.

Climate maps indicate good levels of rainfall and moisture in the South and Midwest regions of Brazil. The highest concentration is expected in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul between September 19th and 25th. For Mato Grosso and the Southeast, rainfall is expected during this period, but not yet at very satisfactory levels. However, nothing that should cause concern for the region.

From September 26th to October 2nd, rainfall decreases slightly in the South and presents a similar pattern in the Midwest and Southeast regions of the country. It is worth remembering that rainfall in larger volumes is expected to appear with greater intensity from October onwards.
