New feed mill has started operations in Romania
A new feed production plant has been commissioned in Mizil, strengthening Romania’s capacity in the livestock feed sector. The launch comes amid rising demand for animal protein and ongoing volatility in grain markets, which continue to pressure production costs.
The facility features a high level of automation, integrating all stages of production—from grain intake to processing and packaging—into a single system. The project was implemented with the participation of Dutch International Trading and MGN, with technology supplied by Silos Córdoba.
The plant includes 23 silos along with dedicated storage for raw materials and finished feed, enabling continuous production and improved inventory management. This setup helps reduce downtime and optimize operational efficiency—key factors for the feed industry.
Romania remains one of the leading grain producers in the EU, particularly in corn and wheat, providing a solid raw material base for feed manufacturing. However, the sector is still fragmented, with many smaller and less efficient producers operating alongside modern facilities.
The launch of the Mizil plant reflects a broader shift toward more integrated and technologically advanced production models. It is expected to support more stable feed supply, lower operating costs, and enhance the competitiveness of Romania’s livestock sector, although further modernization efforts will still be needed.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
