Morocco will introduce a new system of support for milling wheat imports in 2025
Morocco is introducing a new system of support for imports of milling wheat, which will be valid from January 1 to April 30, 2025, Morocco World News reports.
The new system, which is part of the joint decision of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Agriculture, is aimed at providing financial assistance to traders, cooperatives and flour mills importing soft wheat.
According to the circular published by the National Bureau of Cereals and Legumes of Morocco (ONICL) on December 25, importers will receive a one-time payment corresponding to the difference between the average cost of wheat at the port for the month and the price of 270 Moroccan dirhams per cent ($267.6/t).
The average cost used for the calculation is the average of the two lowest costs from different countries, including Germany, Argentina, France and the United States, provided that the difference between the two lowest prices does not exceed 30 Moroccan dirhams per cent.
The measure applies exclusively to soft milling wheat imported by traders and industrial mills.
“Volumes imported under this circular but shipped after April 30, 2025 due to force majeure will receive a payment applicable in April 2025,” the circular says.
In recent years, Morocco has been severely affected by crop failures. In 2024, the gross wheat harvest in the country decreased by about 50% due to prolonged drought.
