Morocco sharply increased olive oil supplies to Spain in the 2025/26 season. According to DataComex, Spain imported 10.38 thsd tons of Moroccan olive oil between January and April 2026, compared with just 103 tons in the same period a year earlier.

Despite the rapid increase, Morocco still does not dominate the Spanish market. Its share of Spain’s olive oil imports rose from 2.01% to 7.48%, while Spain’s own olive oil production in the 2025/26 season is estimated at around 1.3 mln tons.

The trade balance between the two countries has also shifted. Spain previously sold more olive oil to Morocco than it bought from the country, but the situation has now reversed. In the first four months of 2026, Spanish olive oil exports to Morocco fell by 75% to 674 tons.

The increase in Moroccan shipments was supported by a strong olive harvest after several years of drought. Morocco’s olive oil production in the 2025/26 season is estimated at around 200 thsd tons, more than double the previous year’s level.

At the same time, Tunisia remains the largest external supplier of olive oil to both Spain and the EU. Analysts say Morocco’s growing role reflects a redistribution of trade flows rather than a replacement of Spanish olive oil on the market.
