Moldova’s grain exports to reach around 1 mln tons in MY 2025/26
In 2025, Moldova’s total cereal production was below the five-year average, at approximately 2.2 million tonnes. Maize output reached only 860,000 tonnes due to high temperatures and low rainfall in central and southern regions, while wheat production was around 1.15 million tonnes, close to the five-year average.
Cereal exports in the MY 2025/26 are expected to total about 1 million tonnes, nearly 30% below the five-year average. The main reason for the decline is the reduced maize harvest, which limited the volume of grain available for export.
Spring planting for the 2026 crops, including barley and maize, is scheduled for March–May. Delays in autumn sowing due to prolonged rainfall resulted in below-average areas planted with winter cereals. However, sufficient snow cover has protected the crops from frost and ensured adequate soil moisture for future planting.
