Moldova exported 378.2 thsd tons of wheat in July-August 2026, the highest volume ever recorded for this period. Shipments increased by 23% compared with the same period of 2025 and were around 5% above the previous record set in 2021.

At the same time, Moldova rose to second place among wheat suppliers to the EU. According to Eurostat data, 113.5 thsd tons of Moldovan wheat were shipped to the EU market in July-August, exceeding volumes supplied by Serbia and Ukraine.

The average export price in the first two months of the season stood at 3.71 lei/kg, compared with 3.53 lei/kg in 2024/25. In August, however, the average price declined to 3.67 lei/kg from 3.76 lei/kg in July. The total value of wheat exports over the two months reached around 1.4 bln lei, up from 1.09 bln lei a year earlier.

Romania was the main destination, importing 134.1 thsd tons of Moldovan wheat, or 35.5% of total exports. Shipments to Italy reached 98.6 thsd tons, while Israel received 56.7 thsd tons.

The main logistics problem this season has been a sharp decline in rail shipments due to wagon delays near the port of Reni. Rail exports fell to 2.87 thsd tons in August from 45.3 thsd tons in July. Meanwhile, water transport accounted for 76.1% of all wheat shipments during the two months, while the Giurgiulesti hub handled almost 279 thsd tons, or 73.8% of total exports.
