MHP to acquire leading Spanish poultry, pork processor

Ukraine’s largest poultry processor, MHP, has submitted a binding offer to acquire UVESA Group, a prominent Spanish food company with large poultry and pork operations.

MHP explained that the transaction constitutes a tender offer addressed to all the current shareholders of UVESA. MHP seeks to achieve a minimum acceptance threshold of 50.01%.

“The requirement for regulatory approvals, if any, will be assessed and addressed as necessary,” MHP claimed.

This acquisition is another strategic step in MHP’s journey, consolidating its position as an important player in the global food industry while securing a strategic long-term investor for UVESA Group, MHP added.

The deal should further strengthen MHP’s position in Europe, where the company has already been reportedly ranked first in the list of largest poultry producers in 2024, the company said.

The company stressed that its presence in Spain would create new jobs and provide valuable opportunities for collaboration with local farmers and businesses, help to strengthen the wider poultry supply chain and contribute to Spain’s broader agricultural sector, enhancing the country’s food sustainability and driving economic development.

Established in 1964, UVESA is a major poultry processor in Spain. As of 2020, the company owned 600 integrated farms and established the production and export of dry-cured sausages under the Alpico trademark, as well as a line of halal meat products under the Basmahal trademark.

MHP also insists that despite a series of acquisitions in the global poultry industry in recent years, Ukrainian farms remain the core of its structure.

“The main priority of MHP remains the further development of business in Ukraine. We are working to ensure food safety, stable work of our facilities, strengthening the state economy, supporting the military, our teams and communities, and investing in Ukrainian businesses that expand the culinary ecosystem of MHP,” the holding company said.
