Malaysia: May palm oil exports surge 25.6pct, CPO output up 5.05pct
Malaysia’s palm oil exports rose 25.6 per cent to 1.39 million tonnes last month from 1.10 million tonnes in April, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) said.
The country produced 1.77 million tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) in May, up 5.1 per cent from 1.69 million tonnes in the preceding month, the agency said in its latest industry performance report.
Palm kernel output increased 2.8 per cent to 420,658 tonnes from 409,097 tonnes in April.
Crude palm kernel oil production rose 19.2 per cent to 210,512 tonnes from 176,644 tonnes previously, while palm kernel cake output grew 20.1 per cent to 231,568 tonnes from 192,857 tonnes, MPOB said.
On inventories, it said the CPO stockpile was 4.8 per cent higher at 1.10 million tonnes in May compared with 1.05 million tonnes in the prior month while processed palm oil stocks grew 9.0 per cent to 888,343 tonnes from 814,673 tonnes in April.
This brought May’s total palm oil inventories to 1.99 million tonnes from 1.87 million tonnes in the preceding month.
On exports for the period, MPOB said palm kernel oil exports surged 20.7 per cent to 119,182 tonnes from 98,743 tonnes in April.
Palm kernel cake exports improved 37.3 per cent to 193,328 tonnes from 140,833 tonnes previously, oleochemical exports rose 6.0 per cent to 232,683 tonnes from 219,520 tonnes, and biodiesel exports rose 39.3 per cent to 32,848 tonnes from 23,589 tonnes.
No CPO imports were recorded in May, while palm kernel oil imports slid 43.5 per cent to 8,074 tonnes from 14,287 tonnes in April.
