Maersk to build dry port at intermodal terminal in Hungary
Maersk will create a “dry port” at the East-West Intermodal Logistics Plc. (EWG) intermodal terminal in Feneslitke, Hungary. The parties have signed a long-term agreement, Port Technology reports.
The agreement also provides for the creation of a container depot at the EWG terminal.
The concept of the project is to transfer some of the functions traditionally performed in seaports to the inland terminal. This will allow the facility to operate as an integrated part of the shipping company’s logistics network.
Preparations for the project began in 2025. For several months, the parties have been engaged in operational planning and risk assessment.
“EWG plays an important role in strengthening our regional inland network and in more effectively integrating our customers’ logistics flows. We believe that EWG will open up new opportunities in the region,” said Andrea Ordodi, Maersk Sales and Regional Development Manager in Hungary.
The Feneslitka terminal is located at the intersection of key road and rail routes. It is part of the European TEN-T transport network, as well as rail routes connected to the Central Corridor.
Container traffic within the framework of the cooperation has already begun: the first export train arrived at the terminal in February 2026. Currently, flights are operated depending on demand, but the companies are working on launching a regular connection.
According to the partners, the cooperation will allow EWG to be more closely integrated into Maersk’s logistics network in Central and Eastern Europe and support the development of cargo flows between the region and global trade routes.
