MABUX: bunker indexes may continue to decline on July 08

MABUX World Bunker Index (consists of a range of prices for 380 HSFO, VLSFO and MGO in the main world hubs) decreased on July 07:

380 HSFO – USD/MT – 457.56 (-9.19)
VLSFO – USD/MT – 563.31 (-8.81)
MGO – USD/MT – 651.38 (-10.72)

MABUX ARA LNG Bunker Index, available from April 29, 2021 and calculated as the average price of LNG as a marine fuel in the ARA region, slightly decreased on July 08 down to 789.60 USD/MT ( -0.47 USD). The LNG Bunker Index exceeds the price of MGO LS at the Port of Rotterdam by $ 202.60 (587 USD/MT as of July 07). The price difference increased (plus 19.53 USD compared to the previous day). As of July 07, a correlation of MABUX MBP Index (Market Bunker Prices) vs MABUX DBP Index (Digital Bunker Prices Benchmark) in four largest global hubs showed that 380 HSFO fuel remained undervalued in all selected ports: from minus $ 23 in Houston (minus $ 24 the day before (t.d.b.)) and minus $ 18 (minus $ 23 t.d.b) in Fujairah to minus $ 39 (minus $ 36 t.d.b.) in Rotterdam and minus $ 38 (minus $ 44 t.d.b.) in Singapore. The most significant change was registered in Singapore (-$ 6).

VLSFO, according to MABUX DBP Index, was also underestimated in all selected ports. The undercharging ranged from minus $ 18 in Houston (versus minus $ 15 t.d.b.) and minus $ 22 (minus $ 25 t.d.b.) in Rotterdam to minus $ 43 (minus $49 t.d.b.) in Fujairah and minus $ 40 (minus $ 46 t.d.b.) in Singapore. The change of underestimation level was registered in Fujairah and Singapore: the decrease of $ 6 for both.

On July 07, MABUX DBP Index also registered the underpricing of MGO LS in all selected ports, ranging from minus $ 12 (minus $ 17 t.d.b.) in Houston to minus $ 46 (minus $ 43 t.d.b.) in Rotterdam, minus $57 (minus $60 t.d.b.) in Singapore and minus $ 60 (minus $ 67 t.d.b.) in Fujairah. The most significant change of underestimation level was registered in Fujairah: decrease of $ 7.

We expect bunker prices may continue to decline today. The price for 380 HSFO may decrease by 4-6 USD, for VLSFO – by 6-8 USD. The price for MGO may fall by 7-10 USD.
