Lithuania will develop an alternative route for Ukrainian exports across the Baltic Sea
Lithuania is allocating an additional EUR 2 million to finance the humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine. In addition, it will develop an alternative route for Ukrainian exports through the Baltic Sea, said Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrid Šimonite.
“I am pleased to see how much has been achieved in the year since the start of this program. Lithuania joined this initiative last year, and today we are allocating an additional EUR 2 million, which will be transferred to Ukraine by the end of this year,” the head of the Lithuanian government said.
Šimonite noted that Russia is trying to obstruct Ukrainian supplies through the Black Sea and jeopardize global food security, but this will not work.
“We are also working on alternative export routes, including ‘solidarity routes’ and new corridors. We will be ready to increase the transit capacity of our ports for Ukrainian exports, and this will create another opportunity – a corridor across the Baltic Sea for the export of Ukrainian products, despite Russia’s efforts,” the Lithuanian Prime Minister emphasized.
