LDC to build one of the world’s largest sunseed processing plants in Argentina

Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) is investing in the construction of a new sunseed and soybean processing plant in Bahia Blanca, Argentina. Once operational, the facility will be able to process up to 4,000 tons of seeds per day and will become one of the world’s largest sunflower seeds processing plants. The company’s press service reported this.

According to the company, the plant will also be one of the most energy efficient in the industry thanks to the use of renewable biomass.

The facility will be integrated with the company’s existing storage, logistics and deep-sea port infrastructure.

“This is one of the company’s largest investments in Argentina in the last decade and the first project to build a new plant “from scratch” in this period,” said LDC CEO Michael Gelchi.

The project involves the installation of equipment for cleaning, hulling, conditioning and flattening seeds, as well as modern oil extraction systems. The plant will create an integrated zone for receiving seeds and shipping processed products – meal, pellets and oil. Closed transport systems are also provided for continuous operation and emission reduction.

The enterprise will be equipped with modern automation and transportation systems for raw materials and products, as well as a highly efficient thermal infrastructure that will operate exclusively on renewable biomass – sunflower husks. This will optimize energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions during production.

Construction is planned to begin by the end of 2026.

The investment should strengthen LDC’s position in the global sunseed market and complement other recent oilseed processing projects of the company in Argentina and Hungary.
