Layer hen numbers rise in Latin America while EU broiler prices increase
In 2025, the population of laying hens in Latin American countries increased by 4.7% to reach 597.2 million birds. Mexico and Brazil remain the region’s largest producers, with 185.1 million and 141.6 million laying hens respectively. Together, the two countries account for more than half of the region’s total flock.
Meanwhile, broiler meat prices continue to rise in the European Union. At the end of June, the average price reached €3.04 per kilogram, up 3% from the previous month. Although poultry meat production in the EU-27 increased by about 6% during the first quarter of 2026, strong consumer demand has helped keep prices at elevated levels.
The EU egg market, on the other hand, recorded a slight decline in prices to €2.68 per kilogram. Nevertheless, current price levels remain above both last year’s figures and the five-year average, indicating that egg prices continue to be relatively high across the European market.
