Larger Black Sea harvests to boost global sunflowerseed output — IGC

Global sunflowerseed production in 2026/27 could rise by around 10% to 62.1 mln tons. Higher output in the Black Sea region is expected to be the main driver of the increase, according to IGC data.

Russia’s sunflowerseed production is forecast at a record 21 mln tons, up from 17.5 mln tons in the previous season. Favourable growing conditions and a larger planted area are expected to support the increase.

Russia’s sunflowerseed area is estimated at 12 mln ha. Over the past ten years, the planted area has expanded by around 70% amid strong domestic and export demand for sunflower products.

In Ukraine, sunflowerseed production in 2026/27 could increase by around 11% to 13.5 mln tons. Ukraine remains the world’s second-largest sunflowerseed producer.

In Argentina, sunflowerseed area is expected to remain broadly unchanged, while yields are forecast close to trend levels. Production is projected at 7.5 mln tons, roughly in line with the previous season.
