Large linseed stocks in China weigh on prices in Kazakhstan
Linseed prices in Kazakhstan continue to decline due to weak Chinese demand and large stocks in the country. According to the Grain Union of Kazakhstan, EXW prices fell by KZT 5 thsd over August 31–September 6 to KZT 185–190 thsd/t ($405–416/t), while FCA Kazakhstan export prices declined by $10 to $440–445/t. Prices for deliveries to China on a DAP Dostyk/Altynkol basis fell by $5 to $465–470/t. Chinese importers report weak trading activity and ample linseed stocks.
Pressure from China is particularly important for Kazakhstan, as the country remains one of its key export markets. China imported a record 1.44 mln tons of linseed in MY 2025/26, with Kazakhstan accounting for 423 thsd tons, or 29.4%. Kazakhstan’s linseed prices are falling despite the broader trend in the oilseed complex, where global prices rose by around 2–2.5% over the past week.
In the European market, prices for Kazakh brown linseed delivered DAP Poland fell by €5 to €510–515/t. In contrast, C&F ARAG prices for October delivery rose by $10 to $625/t due to higher logistics costs. Transportation is being complicated by heavy Russian grain flows through the Baltic route, increasing the cost of delivering Kazakh linseed to Europe.
Quality requirements are also becoming an increasingly important factor for exporters. Chinese and European buyers are paying closer attention to the quality of the new crop, while shipments to the EU require more extensive testing to comply with European requirements. Linseed oil content must be at least 40%.
