Kazakhstan to reduce wheat crops in 2025
The Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan presented to the President of the country a plan for the development of the agricultural industry for 2025. It was reported that next season the state intends to accelerate the improvement of the composition and structure of sown areas, increase the area of highly profitable crops, reduce the sowing of wheat, reports the agency APK News.
According to the information of the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, over 25 million tons of grain were harvested in the country on October 14 – these are record figures for Kazakhstan. At this time 98% of areas have been harvested. The average yield is 15.5 c/ha.
Everything is in order this year and with fodder grasses. According to the Minister, their harvest is also at a high level. The sugar beet harvest is also a record. The harvest amounted to 1.2 million tons.
The head of the ministry noted that such a level was achieved thanks to the allocated state funds. After all, for the first time, 580 billion tenge was allocated for preferential lending to the agro-industrial complex. This is three times more than a year ago. Moreover, the money went directly to farmers. Next year the support will increase further – up to 900 billion tenge.
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture said that the country’s meat and milk production increased by 4.5% and 4.2%, respectively. The industry of processing of agricultural products, which was instructed to work qualitatively, also does not stand still – measures are being taken to load the production facilities, new markets are being sought.
The President was also informed about the plans for 2025. According to the information presented, next season the country will continue to diversify crops, in particular, it is expected to reduce the sowing of monoculture.
The press service of the Ministry of Agriculture told the APK News Kazakhstan agency that when speaking about monoculture, the head of the Ministry meant wheat.
The sowing areas of water-intensive crops will also decrease. Meanwhile, the volume of highly profitable and priority crops will grow. It should be noted that oilseed crops have always been considered profitable before.
The goal to reduce the area of sowing wheat was set by the authorities of Kazakhstan 10 years ago, and 20 years ago. As reported, by 2028 the area of cultivation of this crop should be reduced by 855 thousand hectares. The largest reduction is planned in Akmola region.
