Kazakhstan says it will maintain wheat export potential in 2023

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan plans to maintain the export potential of wheat this year, despite unfavorable weather conditions in the main regions where the grain is sown. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry.

“As of today, the grain harvesting is nearing completion, with the work already done on 15.6 mln hectares (90.2%). With an average yield of 9.3 centners per hectare, farmers have harvested 14.6 million tons of grain,” the statement said.

The agency emphasized that this year was not easy for farmers. “However, despite all the challenges, unfavorable weather conditions, Kazakhstan will fully provide the domestic market with the necessary volumes of wheat, as well as preserve its export potential,” the ministry explained.

In September, the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Aidarbek Saparov said that the country may reduce grain exports due to lower yields. At the same time, the amount of grain planned to be exported will be enough to maintain positions in traditional export markets. According to him, the forecast of grain exports for 2023-2024 MY was 6 million tons.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2022, Kazakhstan harvested one of the largest crops in the last 10 years. The country harvested 22 mln tons of grains and pulses, which is 35% more than a year earlier. In addition, the gross harvest of wheat increased by 38.9% to 16.4 million tons. Traditionally, Kazakhstan annually exports about 6-7 million tons of grain and about 1.5-2 million tons of flour. In 2022, Kazakhstan exported 13.2 million tons of grain and flour in grain equivalent.
