Kazakhstan rapeseed exports surge

Kazakhstan’s rapeseed exports have risen significantly since the start of the 2025/26 marketing season, increasing by 1.8 times. Russia remains the largest buyer, accounting for 35% of total shipments. Meanwhile, China has dramatically expanded its purchases, increasing imports of Kazakh rapeseed dozens of times.

In the first seven months of the season, Kazakhstan exported 173 thousand tonnes of rapeseed, nearly 40% more than the total volume exported during the entire previous marketing year. This indicates that a substantial share of the country’s export potential has already been realized well before the end of the season.

Among key destinations, shipments to Russia reached 60.6 thousand tonnes, up 2.24 times year-on-year. Even stronger growth was recorded for China, where exports surged 81.5 times to 32.6 thousand tonnes. Poland also showed moderate growth, with imports increasing by 11% to 19.7 thousand tonnes.

In addition to traditional markets, Kazakhstan expanded its export geography. New destinations in the first half of the season included Denmark (2 thousand tonnes), Iran (2.7 thousand tonnes), and Afghanistan (1.7 thousand tonnes), where no shipments had been recorded during the same period last season.

At the same time, exports to several EU countries declined. Shipments to Estonia fell by 17% to 5.3 thousand tonnes, to Latvia by 43.5% to 19.3 thousand tonnes, while exports to France dropped to zero from 5 thousand tonnes a year earlier. According to analysts, the current export pace is among the strongest in the past eight years, with 82.5% of the projected annual export volume of 210 thousand tonnes already fulfilled.
