Kazakhstan may export up to 4 mln tons of grain to new markets
Kazakhstan traditionally exports grain to Central Asian countries, periodically large volumes are also taken by China. This year, other export destinations are also being actively explored. According to estimates, Kazakhstan will be able to ship up to 4 million tons in the 2024-25 season through its ports on the Caspian Sea, as well as the ports of the Black Sea and the Baltic States. Sanzhar Elyubaev, president of Astyk Trans JSC, shared this forecast in an interview with ElDala.kz.
This year Kazakhstan will gather a rich harvest of grain crops, while in a number of countries the harvest forecasts are reduced.
“This year we are already seeing a lot of interest in supplying our barley from Iran. There are applications, and I think this season we will actively recover in this direction. Two grain terminals in the port of Aktau are working, perhaps the land direction will be involved,” said Sanzhar Yelyubaev.
He noted that through the two grain terminals in the port of Aktau, with their ideal work and good weather, 150-160 thousand tons per month can be shipped. Mainly Iran buys barley in Kazakhstan.
Forecasts of a low harvest in rf, the European Union and Ukraine open up opportunities for the export of Kazakh grain to Europe through the Black Sea and Baltic ports.
“We have a record of about 3.5 million tons of grain transited through rf. In recent years, this volume does not reach 1 million tons per year. So if we approach conservatively, this year to bring the volume to 2.5 million tons is quite realistic,” – said Sanzhar Yelyubaev.
The expert emphasized that even if the shipment in these directions will be less, this fact will have a positive impact on pricing for Kazakh agricultural products.
