Kazakhstan forecasts strong corn yields in 2026
Kazhydromet has released its preliminary forecast for Kazakhstan’s 2026 grain corn yield. According to the agency, corn crops are in good condition across most producing regions, with yields expected to be at or above the long-term average in many areas.
Since the beginning of the growing season, corn-producing regions have experienced warm weather, while precipitation has generally been at or above normal levels. Rainfall was lowest during the first ten days of June, but timely irrigation helped maintain adequate soil moisture and supported normal crop development.
According to Kazhydromet, crop conditions were rated as good to excellent at the time of the assessment. Vegetation irrigation has already been carried out in the Turkistan region. However, specialists noted that final yields will largely depend on the timely application of further irrigation, as the country’s southern regions are regularly affected by atmospheric and soil drought.
Preliminary estimates indicate that yields in the Zhetysu region will exceed the long-term average in the Eskeldy and Karatal districts, while the Panfilov district is expected to produce average yields. In the Almaty region, corn yields are forecast to be at or above the long-term average.
In the Zhambyl region, above-average yields are expected in the Sarysu and Baizak districts, while the Korday, Merke, Zhambyl, and Shu districts are projected to harvest crops close to the long-term average. In the Turkistan region, yields are generally expected to remain near average, with above-average results forecast for the Ordabasy and Shardara districts.
