Kazakhstan completes grain harvest with 24.3 mln tons collected
Kazakhstan has completed its 2026 grain harvesting campaign, with farmers collecting 24.3 mln tons of grain. According to the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, this is one of the highest harvest figures recorded over the past 15 years, surpassed only by two previous record harvests.
Preliminary data indicate that the harvested wheat has strong quality characteristics. In particular, around 72% of soft wheat delivered to grain receiving facilities meets Grade 3 standards. Meanwhile, 48% of tested samples had gluten content exceeding 28%, indicating a substantial share of grain with strong breadmaking qualities.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture noted that increased fertilizer application and the use of high-quality seeds contributed to the harvest results. In 2026, farmers applied 2.1 mln tons of fertilizers, compared with 1.8 mln tons a year earlier. Meanwhile, the share of elite seeds in the total planted area increased to 12%. According to the ministry, fertilizer application volumes are now almost three times higher than three years ago.
Around 29 thsd combines and 130 thsd tractors were deployed during Kazakhstan’s harvesting campaign. Under a preferential leasing program, agricultural producers purchased 15 thsd units of machinery. According to the ministry, the renewal of the agricultural machinery fleet helped reduce its wear rate from 85% to 65%, improving farms’ access to equipment needed for field operations.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is increasing exports of newly harvested grain. According to the national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, grain exports from early September to mid-October 2026 reached 1.657 mln tons, up 9% compared with the same period last year.
