Kazakhstan. Wheat exports hit a seven-year high
Kazakhstan exported 2.8 MMT of wheat in September-January 2018/19 that is 25% more than in the same period in MY 2017/18 and 43% above the five-year average. In addition, the exported volume was the largest for this time of year since MY 2011/12, report UkrAgroConsult’s analysts.
As before, the top importer of Kazakh wheat is Uzbekistan, which increased imports by 17% in September-January 2018/19, to 1.1 MMT against the same period a year earlier.
In the period under review, Turkmenistan imported 223.2 KMT of wheat, or 151% more than in the whole of MY 2017/18. In addition, Kazakh wheat shipments to Azerbaijan gained 138 in September-January 2018/19.
Strong demand for Kazakh wheat remains from Georgia. In addition, the period under review witnessed a rise in shipments to other major buyers of Kazakh wheat: Afghanistan, China and the EU.
At the same time, Turkey – a key destination market for Kazakh wheat in MY 2017/18 – reduced purchases by 49% this season.
