Iran holds tender for corn, barley and soybean meal

Iranian state-owned animal feed importer SLAL is believed to have purchased an undisclosed amount of animal feed corn, soybean meal and feed barley in international tenders that ended on Monday, European traders said on Tuesday.
The tenders called for 120,000 tonnes each of corn, barley and soybean meal.
Unconfirmed trader estimates suggested up to 240,000 tonnes of corn and 240,000 tonnes of soybean meal were purchased, in both lots of 60,000 tonnes.
Some estimates suggested around 180,000 tonnes of barley were purchased in three lots of 60,000 tonnes.
No prices were available. The reports reflect trader estimates, and further price and volume estimates are still possible later.
All grains were scheduled for delivery in July and August.
The corn could have been purchased from Brazil, Europe, Russia, Ukraine or other Black Sea countries, including Turkey.
The barley could have been purchased from the European Union, Russia, Ukraine or other Black Sea countries, including Turkey and Kazakhstan.
Soybean meal could only have been purchased from Brazil or Argentina.
Payment problems for Iranian businesses due to Western sanctions have made it difficult to participate in the country’s recent tenders, traders said.
Traders said Iran is offering to pay for the new tenders through two banks: one in Iraq and one in Turkey.
