Iran bans export of all agri-food products
Iran has announced a complete ban on the export of all food and agricultural products until further notice. According to the local Tasnim news agency, the restrictions are aimed at prioritizing the domestic supply of essential goods for the population. A government statement emphasized that the main goal is to ensure food security for Iranian citizens.
US Department of Agriculture data show that Iran accounts for around 18% of global pistachio production, 6% of cherries, and 2% of barley. The export ban is therefore expected to have a significant impact on global markets and the supply of these commodities.
The ban comes amid escalating conflict in the region, affecting other Middle Eastern countries as well. Kuwait has also announced a temporary ban on food exports. Kuwait’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Osama Boodai, explained that the measures are intended to protect consumers and stabilize the domestic market.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
