Indonesia plans to increase feed corn supplies to support poultry farmers

Indonesia’s National Food Agency (Bapanas) has proposed releasing an additional 150 thsd tons of feed corn onto the domestic market under the government’s Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program. The measure is aimed at curbing rising feed costs and supporting poultry producers.

The additional grain supplies are primarily intended for small poultry farms, which are being hit hardest by higher feed costs. The government expects increased corn availability to also help stabilize domestic egg and poultry meat prices. The Bapanas proposal is currently awaiting consideration at a food coordination meeting.

Initially, the SPHP program envisaged the distribution of 213.2 thsd tons of feed corn in 2026. As of August 18, producers in 28 provinces had already received 120.31 thsd tons. The program has been particularly active in East Java and Central Java.

For program participants, Bapanas has set the corn price at warehouses operated by state logistics agency Bulog at around $0.28/kg. The maximum selling price to farmers is capped at approximately $0.30/kg. Grain is distributed to registered producers through agricultural cooperatives and industry associations.

Bapanas said the government intervention is intended to protect the most vulnerable producers from rising production costs and ensure stable supplies of poultry products to the domestic market. If the additional 150 thsd tons is approved, the total planned volume of corn distributed under the SPHP program in 2026 could increase to 363.2 thsd tons.
