India on pace for record wheat production
India is expecting a record wheat harvest in the 2021-22 marketing year, according to the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The USDA is forecasting a record of 107.6 million tonnes in the 2020-21 marketing year based on increased planting and favorable weather conditions. Wheat exports are expected to be 1.75 million tonnes, consumption to 103.6 million tonnes and lowers ending stocks to 27 million tonnes for the 2020-21 marketing year.
The USDA’s estimate for India’s rice production is forecast to remain at 120 million tonnes for the 2020-21 marketing year due to higher yields. Based on sufficient domestic supplies, India’s rice exports are expected to total 14 million tonnes in the 2020-21 marketing year. The USDA noted a record amount of rice exports for the 2020 calendar year is projected to total 14.7 million tonnes.
