India has adopted a 6-year plan to develop pulses production
On October 1, the Indian Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a six-year plan to stimulate the cultivation of pulses in the country. Funding totaling 110 billion rupees (US$1.2 billion) is earmarked for this purpose. The initiative aims to increase domestic pulse production, reduce dependence on imports, and ensure food security in the country.
The comprehensive strategy will encompass research, the provision of high-yielding seeds, expansion of cultivated area, and price stabilization. By 2030–31, pulses area in the country is expected to increase to 31 million hectares, and the yield to 35 million tonnes.
